How to care for your Anthurium Houseplant
Anthuriums are popular houseplants known for their vibrant and long-lasting blooms. Here are some care instructions to help you keep your anthurium healthy:
Light: They prefer bright, indirect light but can tolerate some shade. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged. Water less in winter. Over-watering can cause root rot, so make sure to drain excess water from the saucer. They typically do well with weekly waterings, allowing time for the soil to dry in between.
Humidity: Anthuriums prefer high humidity levels, so you can mist the leaves regularly or place the pot on a tray of moist pebbles.
Temperature: They like warm temperatures between 65-85°F (18-29°C). Avoid drafts and sudden temperature changes.
Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix and make sure the pot has adequate drainage holes.
Fertilizer: Feed your anthurium every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring to fall) with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer. Reduce or stop fertilizing in winter.
Pruning: Prune off yellowing or damaged leaves as needed. Cut back the flower stem to the base of the plant after the blooms have faded to encourage new growth.
Re-potting: Re-pot your anthurium every 2-3 years or when the roots have filled the pot. Choose a pot only slightly larger than the previous one and use a fresh potting mix.
By following these care instructions, you can keep your anthurium healthy and enjoy its stunning blooms for many years to come.
